1 April 2014 To: London & region media Re. This is no joke! City of London acquires former Normal School The Old South Community Organization (OSCO) is delighted to report that the City of London has completed the previously announced acquistion of the former London Normal School from the Province of Ontario. This transfer paves the way for the renovation and re-use of the building, which has been vacant since 2007.After a competitive process, the YMCA’s proposal to re-use the building was selected. They intend to use it for a number of activities and programs, such as childcare, language training, youth leadership, office and administration. This beautiful 1899 heritage building has lately been the subject of an award-winning exterior renovation by the province. Now that the transfer has taken place, the work on making the inside of the building ready for use in the 21st century can begin. This successful arrangement required the active participation from a number of city departments, provincial ministries and agencies, and OSCO would like to thank them all for their commitment and hard work.We look forward to collaborating with both the city, the Y and the community to ensure that this building can once again play a central role in the life of this community and city. |
